Description
This warm, soothing soup is a light and healing recipe made with bottle gourd (lauki) and ash gourd (petha) — two cooling vegetables known for their digestive, detoxifying, and hydrating properties. Infused with ginger, cumin, and black pepper, this soup is ideal for those with digestive issues.
Ingredients
Scale
1 cup bottle gourd (lauki), peeled & chopped
1 cup ash gourd (petha), peeled & chopped
1 tsp grated ginger
½ tsp cumin seeds
Rock salt to taste
Black pepper – a pinch
1 tsp ghee or cold-pressed oil
2½–3 cups water
Optional: A few curry leaves or coriander to garnish
Instructions
- Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and ginger. Sauté briefly.
- Add chopped gourds, sauté for 2 mins. Add water and salt.
- Cover and cook till soft (10–12 mins) or pressure cook for 2 whistles.
- Cool slightly, blend to a smooth puree. Simmer again with pepper.
- Garnish with coriander or a few curry leaves (optional). Serve warm.
